What Mesa work is actually like
Mesa is package unit country. A much larger share of homes here, particularly west of Gilbert Road and throughout the retirement communities, run a single rooftop or ground-mounted packaged system rather than a split system with an indoor air handler. That is a completely different repair: everything is in one cabinet, the whole thing sits in full sun all day, and when it fails there is no partial workaround.
East Mesa carries an unusually high concentration of manufactured and park model homes, many with 2 or 2.5 ton packaged units in cabinets that are decades old and no longer have parts support. West Mesa and the Dobson Ranch area is more conventional 1970s and 1980s block construction with slab returns and, frequently, ducting run under the slab that cannot be sealed conventionally.
Mesa sits on the flat valley floor with very little elevation relief and heavy agricultural dust blowing in from the east. Condenser and package unit coils here foul faster than anywhere else we serve, which is why the maintenance plan for a Mesa package unit specifies two coil washes a year rather than one.

Mesa questions
How fast will someone actually arrive?
Median arrival across the metro over the last twelve months was 47 minutes. Central Phoenix, Tempe and Ahwatukee usually beat that. Surprise, Queen Creek and Cave Creek usually do not. The dispatcher gives you a real window on the call, and if the crew is running late you get a text, not silence.
Is there an overtime or after-hours charge?
No. Our rate at 2am on a Sunday in July is the same rate as 10am on a Tuesday in February. We took the after-hours premium out in 2019 because in this climate a night-time failure is not a luxury call, it is the normal case.
My air handler is in the attic. Is that a problem?
It is the Phoenix default and it is not ideal. Attic temperatures reach 150 degrees or more, so every foot of duct up there is fighting that heat, and any leak in the supply side pulls that air into your home. It also means condensate leaks show up on your ceiling. We recommend a secondary drain pan with a float switch on every attic install, and R-8 insulation on the duct rather than the R-6 that meets minimum code.
